John Robertson, PhD

Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs

John Robertson is the Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs at NYU Shanghai. Prior to working at NYU Shanghai, he had a similar position at Carnegie Mellon Qatar from 2004 to 2012. That school had a student population of 40 percent Qataris, 40 percent children of expats working in Qatar (mostly non-Gulf Arab and South Asian), and 20 percent international (mostly non-Gulf Arab and South Asian). Robertson helped develop the curriculum and recruit students for the first class of each school. In addition to administrative duties, he teaches courses on globalization, including the Fall and Rise of Modern China, Trade in World History, the Globalization of Warfare, and Globalization of the Arabian Gulf.

Diane Geng

Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs

Diane Geng is the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at NYU Shanghai. She is responsible for the advising program, providing students with academic support, and assisting with maintaining academic policies. Diane obtained a master's degree in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education as a Reynolds Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship and is the co-founder of the Rural China Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting quality education for children in rural China.

Cydney Delia

Academic Resource Center Director

Cydney Delia is the Academic Resource Center Director at NYU Shanghai. She manages all aspects of the Academic Resource Center, including the Global Writing & Speaking Fellows and the Learning Assistants. She is also responsible for coordinating the assessment for NYU Shanghai’s curriculum and creating and implementing new programs as necessary to support students’ academic success. Before working for NYU Shanghai, she served as a learning specialist and coordinator of learning services at the University of Baltimore. Cydney has also taught undergraduate courses in English and Business Law, and is an active member of the Maryland State Bar Association. 




Laura Cheng

Manager of Global Affairs

Laura Cheng is the Manager of Global Affairs. She serves as the primary contact in Shanghai for study away, including Shanghai students studying out into the network, and the academic contact for study away students studying in Shanghai. She is also responsible for managing the January term and summer programs. Laura received her Master's Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She enjoys traveling around the world and has been to over half of the cities where NYU has a study away site.


Duane Voigt

Room 1048

Duane Voigt serves as NYU Shanghai's Registrar. He has been living in Shanghai since January 2013. Prior to that, he served as the registrar at NYU Abu Dhabi, which was NYU's first campus outside of New York City, opening its doors in 2010. Before his move to Abu Dhabi, Voigt worked for over 15 years at Stanford University in California in various capacities in both the registrar's office and undergraduate advising and for six years as the academic director for student athletes. He has lived and worked in Taiwan and has traveled throughout China.
